Krispy Kreme is commemorating three decades of Pokémon with a new lineup of themed doughnuts now on sale at participating stores across the country. The promotion includes limited-edition doughnuts, themed packaging, and a free doughnut offer tied to a single day.
The collection spans six varieties, each built around a recognizable character or item from the franchise. The Bulbasaur variety starts with the chain's glazed base, finished with vanilla-flavored icing, frosting, and a character piece on top. The Charmander option uses an unglazed shell format, stuffed with chocolate and toasted marshmallow filling, then finished with orange-hued caramel icing and a mix of red and gold sugar sprinkles. The Squirtle entry is also glazed at its base, with cotton candy-flavored buttercreme piped on, rolled in sanding sugar and nonpareils, and finished with a surfing Squirtle figure. A Pikachu doughnut uses a shell format filled with lemon-flavored creme, then covered in vanilla icing, drizzle, and nonpareils before a character topper is added. The Jigglypuff version layers strawberry-flavored buttercreme onto a glazed base, adds strawberry-flavored cookie crumbles, and carries a Jigglypuff piece on top. Rounding out the lineup is a Poké Ball doughnut, a glazed base dressed in vanilla icing and red sprinkles with chocolate icing piped across it.
Purchases by the dozen come packaged in special Pokémon-themed boxes. The launch also features collectibles alongside the doughnuts as part of the 30th-anniversary celebration.
Fans willing to show up to a Krispy Kreme location dressed in Pokémon-themed attire on Saturday are eligible to receive one free glazed doughnut. Krispy Kreme's chief brand and product officer, Alison Holder, described the effort as a chance to bring the franchise's world to life through doughnuts, saying in a statement: "this collection is made to be caught and shared as we celebrate 30 incredible years of Pokémon."
Krispy Kreme had not announced a closing date for the promotion at the time of reporting, leaving the collection's full availability window unclear.
