Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is marking a century of operation with a week of events, discounts, and a new facility opening that overlaps its centennial celebration.
The zoo opened its Military Appreciation Week on September 14, offering all military members and their immediate families half-price admission on any daytime entry through September 20. Colorado Springs is home to several nearby military installations, meaning thousands of families are eligible for the discount.
On Tuesday, September 15, at 9:30 a.m., the zoo held two simultaneous events: the official opening of a new Giraffe Center and the formal launch of the zoo's Centennial Celebration.
The Centennial Celebration is scheduled to continue through Sunday, September 20, and includes live music, performers, classic cars, and additional family activities.
Details on any further centennial programming beyond September 20, or on the full scope of the new Giraffe Center, had not been released at the time of reporting.
