Teller County Search and Rescue conducted two rescues on the same trail in a single day after a pair of unrelated hikers found themselves in need of assistance on Devils Playground Trail on Sunday, Aug. 9.

Teller County Search and Rescue reported that crews were first called to the trail to assist one hiker, and not long after completing that response, were called again to help a second, separate hiker in need.

Both hikers made it off the mountain safely, according to Teller County Search and Rescue.

In both cases, Search and Rescue noted that the groups made the right decision by calling for help early while the sun was still out. Officials used the incidents to reinforce a standing safety message, encouraging hikers not to wait to call for help and noting that searching for hikers becomes significantly harder once darkness falls.

No additional details about the conditions that prompted either call were released by rescue officials. It was not immediately clear whether any further agency review of the incidents is planned.
