A Penrose-based country singer channeled the anxiety and relief of watching a neighboring community fight for survival into a new original song, set to debut publicly this weekend at a local charity event.

Country singer Lobo Loggins watched from his home in Penrose as flames filled the sky and red filled the town of Beulah. "Beulah's gone," he told his wife. Then, as fire maps updated in real time, his outlook shifted. A small border appeared in the center of the fire map — surrounded by red, a small dot of white.

"Beulah's strong," Loggins said. Unable to join the crews on the front lines, he did what he does best: he started writing. Two days later, he had his lyrics. The resulting song, titled "Beulah Strong," takes its name from that moment of recognition.

Loggins spent the last month workshopping the vocal tones and accompanying guitar instrumentals, with Saturday marking the first time he will perform it live. He will play the song with his son, Jake, at the "Cañon City Loves" event at the local Loves Truck Stop, with proceeds benefiting the Children's Miracle Network. Loggins said he is performing for free and donating tips to the network.

The outcome of Saturday's debut performance and the song's wider release remain to be seen, as Loggins has not yet announced plans for a formal recording or distribution of "Beulah Strong."
