A new running event is headed to Pikes Peak, adding to the mountain's existing roster of endurance competitions. The Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, Satori Endurance, and Skyman Inc. jointly announced the Pikes Peak Skybound Marathon, a road race that will climb Pikes Peak Highway all the way to the summit.
The first running of the event is scheduled for Aug. 7, 2027, and will offer participants the choice of a full marathon or a half marathon distance. Registration opens Dec. 1 and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis within set field size limits. The first 500 people to sign up will receive founders recognition and introductory pricing.
The race will set aside 25 elite men's entries and 25 elite women's entries, and a limited number of charity spots will be made available through official nonprofit partners.
Both race distances will start at roughly 9,236 feet on Pikes Peak Highway. Half marathon runners will cover 13.1 miles to the 14,115-foot summit, climbing nearly 4,900 feet along the way. Marathon runners will follow the same uphill course, then reverse direction at the summit and descend back to the start, completing the full 26.2 miles.
Because the new event runs on the paved highway, it will be distinct from the long-running Pikes Peak Marathon, which follows a trail route to the top.
Race organizers framed the event as both an athletic showcase and an economic opportunity for the region. Colorado Springs Sports Corporation CEO Megan Letham said in a statement that the race "presents an exciting opportunity to showcase Pikes Peak – America's Mountain while driving economic impact in our region," adding that drawing runners and spectators from around the country and the world could boost tourism, support local businesses, and strengthen the area's sports economy.
Details on course logistics, timing, and charity partner organizations have not yet been released.
