A kitchen fire broke out Wednesday afternoon at a home along the 2100 block of Ontario Drive, forcing its occupant to vacate the property, according to the Colorado Springs Fire Department. Multiple fire engines were dispatched to the Ontario Drive address, located a short distance southeast of the Airport Road and South Union Drive corridor.

Firefighters successfully brought the blaze under control, and damage was limited to the kitchen area. The cause has not yet been determined, and the incident remains under active investigation.

The occupant of the home suffered smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene, but did not require transport to a hospital. Beyond the fire damage itself, the water deployed during suppression efforts caused substantial additional harm to the structure, the department noted.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department has not yet released a cause or timeline for the completion of its investigation.
