A Green Mountain Falls arts nonprofit is adding another notable chapter to an already busy summer, this time by hosting a ballet production destined for one of the world's most recognized museums.
Green Box Arts is currently providing a three-week home to the performers of "Brokeback Mountain, the Ballet," a residency that follows the organization's July arts festival. Once the residency wraps up, those same dancers are set to perform at the production's world premiere at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City in January.
The ballet was commissioned by Works & Process and is rooted in source material from an Annie Proulx short story. According to a press release, Works & Process residency programs collectively support more than 1,000 artists, and productions developed through those programs have earned awards and grants and toured both domestically and internationally in partnership with the U.S. State Department.
Before the company heads to New York, local audiences can catch a free in-progress showing of the work, running from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on August 15th at the Sallie Bush Community Center. Reservations are available by phone at (719) 465-3065 or through greenboxarts.org.
The specific January date of the Guggenheim world premiere has not yet been publicly confirmed beyond what appears in the organization's press materials.
