Mountain Metropolitan Transit has put forward a set of proposed schedule adjustments for this fall and is asking Colorado Springs bus riders to share their thoughts before a mid-September deadline.

The most expansive frequency improvement in the proposal would affect five routes — 1, 3, 5, 11, and 25 — each of which currently runs once an hour on Saturday evenings. Under the new plan, all five would shift to a 30-minute interval during that period. A similar boost is proposed for Route 24, which would move from hourly to every half-hour during weekday daytime hours. One regular rider told KOAA News5 that halving wait times would make it considerably easier to organize daily travel around the bus system.

Not every route stands to gain service under the proposal. The ZEB Downtown Ride, which operates as Route 13, would see its Friday and Saturday evening runs cut back by roughly two hours.

The proposal also includes a stop expansion for Route 15, extending the route's reach to the area of the Pikes Peak United Way Family Success Center on Verde Drive, with the additional stops placed on Kodiak Drive to the southwest of that facility.

The public comment window closes Tuesday, Sept. 15. Riders can share their views through the city's online survey or by sending an email to transitinfo@coloradosprings.gov. Those who prefer not to use the internet may call 719-385-7433 on weekdays during business hours, or visit Mountain Metro's customer service counter inside the Downtown Terminal at 127 E. Kiowa Street to submit a comment in person.

Should the proposal receive approval, all changes would go into effect on Oct. 25.

The results of the public comment period and any subsequent agency action on the proposal remain to be seen.
