The Funky Little Theater Company is returning to Palmer Lake this summer to launch its 2026 season with a production the company says is meant to offer audiences an uplifting start to the year.
The company opens its 2026 season with "The Savannah Sipping Society," a heartfelt comedy about friendship, reinvention and discovering it's never too late for a fresh start. The production has a limited 10-performance run July 31 through Aug. 9 at the historic venue, 28 Valley Crescent Street in Palmer Lake.
Directed by the theater company's Artistic Director Chris Medina, the comedy follows four Southern women who unexpectedly meet during an impromptu happy hour while each is searching for a change in life. Over the course of six months, the women form lasting friendships, navigate a series of humorous adventures and discover renewed confidence and purpose.
The play was written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, known collectively as Jones, Hope and Wooten, who are among the most-produced playwrights in the United States. Originally premiering in Buford, Georgia, in 2016, "The Savannah Sipping Society" has become one of the trio's most popular productions.
Medina said the choice to open with a comedy was deliberate. "We felt this was the perfect way to open our 2026 season because audiences could use a joyful night at the theatre," he said. "After several seasons featuring dramas and classics, we wanted to begin the year with something that celebrates friendship, resilience and laughter."
"At Funky, we're always looking for stories that bring people together, and The Savannah Sipping Society does exactly that," Medina said. "It's a warm, funny comedy about four women at different crossroads in their lives who unexpectedly form a friendship that changes them all. While there is no shortage of laughs, it reminds us that it's never too late to reinvent yourself, take a chance or find your people."
The award-winning Colorado theater company has evening performances scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, while 1 p.m. matinees are offered Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Wednesday matinees are designated as special senior performances. Tickets range from $22 to $28 and may be purchased online at www.FunkyLittleTheater.org or at the door. The company accepts cash and most major credit cards, and the box office opens 30 minutes before each performance.
Funky Little Theater Company has become a familiar presence in Palmer Lake in recent years, with the theater citing the town as one of its favorite places to perform as it continues to build its audience in the Tri-Lakes region.
Whether the production's limited 10-performance run will be extended in response to audience demand has not been announced.
