Downtown Colorado Springs added a new sports and music venue to its Tejon Street corridor this week, as a Denver-based bar and grill made its southern Colorado debut.
Denver-based, Colorado-themed sports and music bar Stoney's Bar & Grill opened the doors of its first Springs location at 11 a.m. Tuesday at 118 N. Tejon St. inside the historic DeGraff building. Stoney's takes over the space that formerly housed Oskar Blues Grill & Brew, which abruptly closed Dec. 30.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, a news release from the Downtown Partnership merchant group announced on Monday. "We're incredibly excited to bring the tried-and-true Stoney's experience to Downtown Colorado Springs," owner Stoney Jesseph said in the release. "This space has a great history as a place where people come together, and being right in the middle of Tejon Street puts us at the center of the action."
Jesseph and his co-owner and co-founder Will Trautman have signed a 10-year lease to occupy 15,000 square feet of the DeGraff building's first floor and basement area. Opening just in time for football season, downtown's latest sports bar debuts with an upgraded audiovisual system inside the building, which will support the immersive experience the sports and music bar is known for. Stoney's boasts dozens of high-definition TVs at each of its locations and carries all sports packages.
Stoney's also plans to become the official downtown Colorado Springs watch party home for select college teams and NFL fan groups, with more announcements to come, the release said. Guests will also be treated to live entertainment, trivia nights, daily specials and seasonal events, including a pumpkin-carving party already planned for the fall.
Stoney's offers a menu sporting bar favorites like fried chicken tenders and wings, french fries, nachos and a variety of burgers, as well as some unexpected choices like birria grilled cheese and Korean chicken sandwiches, a honey sriracha salmon bowl and vegan and vegetarian options. The bar and grill carries a wide selection of beers, cocktails and mocktails.
The Springs location is Stoney's fifth bar, with three others operating throughout Denver and one in Winter Park. It joins several other sports bars operating throughout downtown Colorado Springs, including Benny's Restaurant & Lounge, the Brit Pub, Tony's and Trainwreck, and another Denver homegrown concept, The Sportsbook Bar & Grill, which opened on the first floor of the Springhill Suites by Marriott at 402 S. Tejon St. in June.
Chelsea Gondeck, Downtown Partnership CEO, said Tejon Street is at its best when people are here to meet up, catch a game, listen to music or just spend time together, and that Stoney's fits right into that mix — especially with football season getting underway.
Further announcements regarding Stoney's watch party partnerships with college and NFL fan groups are expected in the weeks ahead.
