For many aspiring professional golfers, the traditional route runs through PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour qualifying. A growing number of local players, however, are turning toward the DP World Tour's qualifying school instead, a path that Aurora native Davis Bryant has already navigated with notable results.
Bryant, 26, captured the Colorado Open in 2024 and now sits 21st in the Race to Dubai standings, with the top ten finishers at season's end earning PGA Tour exemptions for the following year. His 2026 season has included runner-up performances at both the Magical Kenya Open and the Austrian Alpine Open. Bryant, who attended the Colorado Open at Green Valley Ranch without competing, said 11 events remain in the DP World Tour's regular season, eight of which he plans to enter, followed by two playoff tournaments before the next season begins in late November.
Bryant's trajectory has caught the attention of players he grew up competing against. Hunter Swanson, a former University of Colorado standout who made his professional debut at Green Valley Ranch and placed in a tie for sixth at the Colorado Open, is planning his own trip overseas for DP World Tour Q-School. Swanson described Bryant's accomplishments as highly motivating. "I think a little bit of that sparked the idea like, 'Hey, why don't I go do that? That might be a pretty good path to at least try out,'" he said.
Bryant, Swanson, and fellow Colorado golfer AJ Ott all came up through the state's junior golf ranks together. Ott, a Fort Collins High School graduate and former Colorado State University teammate of Bryant's, closed out the Colorado Open with a 63 in the final round, finishing in second place. He has attempted DP World Tour Q-School in each of the past two years without breaking through, but called it "a great route" and "a chance to go over there and play well."
The qualifying process is grueling by design. Bryant described his 2024 run through Q-School as a test of "endurance as much as it was skill." Competitors must complete 252 holes spread across three stages held in various European countries, with only 25 tour cards awarded when the process concludes. Neither Swanson nor Ott had confirmed a specific Q-School schedule, though the opening stage takes place between Aug. 25 and Sept. 25 at venues across France, England, Belgium, Germany, and Sweden.
The DP World Tour covers courses across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Bryant's next scheduled start is the Nexo Championship in Scotland, running Aug. 20–23, with a short break in Colorado preceding it. He has noted that the lifestyle carries its own rewards, saying the tour gives him the chance to "travel the world, see some places that some people just never get to see in their life."
Whether Swanson and Ott can earn DP World Tour cards this autumn will depend on results when the Q-School stages wrap in late September.
