A Colorado Springs Police Department K9 officer is set to receive new protective gear thanks to a private donation coordinated through a national nonprofit.
The Colorado Springs Police Department announced that K9 Koa will receive a bullet and stab protective vest from the nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9S, Inc.
The department says the vest was sponsored by Shána Leeper and will be embroidered with the sentiment "In memory of Beverly McIllwain."
Vested Interest in K9S, Inc. was established in 2009 and provides vests and other assistance to law enforcement dogs.
No timeline for delivery of the vest was included in the department's announcement, and additional details about K9 Koa's current deployment status were not provided in available reports.
