National Fossil Day at Garden of the Gods — Free
The 12th Annual National Fossil Day celebration takes place at the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center (1805 N. 30th Street) on Saturday, October 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free. The event features hands-on fossil and natural history activities for all ages, giveaways, and live animals from Nature's Educators. No reservations are required.
This is one of the stronger recurring fall events in Colorado Springs for families with curious kids — the Garden of the Gods backdrop doesn't hurt either.
9th Annual FamilyFest at Soccerhaus — $5 Online, Kids 12 and Under Free
Also on Saturday: the 9th Annual FamilyFest at Soccerhaus Sports and Event Center (4845 List Drive), running noon to 5 p.m. Tickets are $5 online or $8 at the door; children 12 and under get in free. Families can explore local resources, connect with community organizations, and take in the event's broader program. It's a good one for families who want a structured, indoor option alongside the outdoor picks.
Pedal Pikes Peak — Bike-Only Morning Access
If your family bikes, Pikes Peak is running its seasonal early-access mornings this weekend. The gateway opens at 7 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday with no vehicle traffic until 9 a.m. It's a rare opportunity to ride the lower sections of the Pikes Peak Highway without sharing the road with cars. Check current Pikes Peak toll and access schedules before heading out.
