PRCS Trackchair Program Expands in 2026: Two Guided Hikes Daily at COS Open Spaces
Colorado Springs' most inclusive outdoor adventure program just got bigger — and more families than ever can take part.
The Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services (PRCS) Trackchair Program expanded in 2026 to offer two guided hikes daily, Wednesday through Sunday, at four open spaces across the city. The program provides all-terrain power wheelchairs — called trackchairs — and trained guides, at no cost, so that people with mobility limitations can access trails they otherwise could not.

What a Trackchair Is
A trackchair is an all-terrain power wheelchair built for outdoor use. Unlike standard power wheelchairs, trackchairs use tank-like treads rather than wheels, allowing them to navigate gravel, grass, uneven terrain, and natural trail surfaces that would stop a conventional chair.
PRCS provides the trackchairs and trained guides who accompany participants through the trail. Families do not need to bring any equipment — just show up at the location and time of their choosing.
Four Open Spaces, More Access
The 2026 expansion added locations and increased the daily frequency of hikes. The program now runs at four Colorado Springs open spaces:
- Ute Valley Park — Wooded trails on the west side of Colorado Springs
- Red Rock Canyon Open Space — Iconic red sandstone formations with scenic trail access
- Blodgett Open Space — Grassland and foothill terrain in the northwest part of the city
- Bluestem Prairie Open Space — Native prairie grassland with wide open trail access
Two guided hikes run daily at each location on Wednesday through Sunday, giving families more flexibility to choose a time and place that works for them.
Part of a Broader 2026 Parks Investment
The Trackchair expansion is part of a broader investment the city made in parks and trails in 2026. The same year's improvements also include new trail connections, wayfinding upgrades, and Rock Island Trail improvements across Colorado Springs. The Trackchair program sits within that broader push to make COS open spaces accessible to more of the community.
Whether a family includes someone who benefits from accessible trail options, or they simply want to experience Colorado Springs open spaces in a new way, the Trackchair program is one of the city's most underused free resources.
What's Next
The Trackchair Program runs Wednesday through Sunday. Families interested in participating should visit coloradosprings.gov/PRCS for current scheduling, location details, and any reservation requirements. The program is free, and PRCS provides everything needed for the hike.
