District 11's fall break ran from Monday, October 19, through Friday, October 23. Students and staff return Monday, October 26.
District 49's fall break ran from Monday, October 13, through Friday, October 23. Students return Monday, October 26, after an extended two-week break.
If you're in Academy District 20, your district operated on a different calendar this fall. Check D20's official school calendar or your school's communications for your specific return date and upcoming schedule.
Getting Ready for Monday
After a week or more off, the Sunday-night routine matters more than usual. A few things worth checking off this weekend:
- Restock backpacks — check for any supplies that ran low or went missing over fall break
- Reset bedtimes tonight (Thursday or Friday) so kids aren't struggling Monday morning
- Check school lunch account balances online if your child uses the school meal program
- Review the district calendar for November — conferences, early dismissals, and the Thanksgiving break are all coming up
- Confirm bus routes or pickup times haven't changed, especially in D49 where boundary updates happened this fall
D20 Leadership Update
For Academy District 20 families: the district named its assistant superintendent as interim superintendent this week as its superintendent search continues. Watch for communications from D20 and your school regarding the transition and any schedule or program updates. The district has committed to keeping families informed as the search progresses.
What's Coming Up in November
Once fall break wraps, the school calendar moves quickly. Most COS districts have parent-teacher conferences scheduled in November, along with early dismissal days around the Thanksgiving holiday. Check your district's calendar now so nothing catches you off guard.
The D11 bond vote is also on the November 3 ballot. The $775 million measure would fund school upgrades, renovations, and technology improvements across the district. Families who live in D11 boundaries are eligible to vote.
What's Next
Monday, October 26 is the return date for D11 and D49 students. From there, the next significant break is Thanksgiving, typically in late November. Use this weekend to ease back into the school-week rhythm so Monday morning goes smoothly.
