COS Tradition: Free Pumpkins for Kindergartners at Venetucci Farm This Weekend (Oct. 24–25)
For over 70 years, Venetucci Farm has given free pumpkins to Colorado Springs kindergartners. It's one of those COS traditions that doesn't need much explanation — if you have a five- or six-year-old, you go to the farm, they pick a pumpkin, and they carry it home like they've just won something. This weekend, October 24–25, is your second-to-last chance before the season ends October 31.

Venetucci Farm is located at 5210 S US Highway 85, south of downtown Colorado Springs. The farm is open weekends from 9:30 AM to 4 PM throughout the pumpkin season.
Every kindergartner — generally children ages 5–6 — receives a free pumpkin to take home. General admission is open to all families, not just kindergartners. Bring the whole family; there's no age requirement to come out and enjoy the farm.
Free parking is available on site.

A 70-Year COS Tradition
The Venetucci family started farming at this site decades ago, and the free-pumpkin tradition for kindergartners has continued since the early days of the operation. The farm has changed hands and management over the years — it's now part of Colorado Springs Parks — but the tradition has stayed intact.
If you grew up in Colorado Springs, there's a good chance you have a photo of yourself as a kindergartner carrying a pumpkin at Venetucci. That continuity is part of what makes it worth going even when life is busy.
What to Expect
The farm is a real working farm, not a produced fall festival. That means the experience is more about the open space, the smell of fall air, and the act of choosing a pumpkin than it is about carnival rides or food vendors. Kids who want to pick their own pumpkin and hold it all the way back to the car are the target audience here.
Wear appropriate shoes — it's a working farm with uneven ground. Dress in layers; the farm is at elevation and mornings can be cool even on sunny days in late October. Arrive early on Saturday to avoid the midday rush that comes when it's combined with coffin race day crowds in the area.
What's Next
Venetucci Farm's final day this season is Halloween itself, Friday, October 31. If this weekend doesn't work for your family, that's still an option. After October 31, the farm closes for the winter.
