A local animal shelter is shining a light on an older cat in need of a new household this week. Sooty, an 11-year-old black Domestic Shorthair, arrived at HSPPR after being given up by his owner.
Shelter staff describe Sooty as affectionate and full of energy, eager to soak up attention and lean into a good petting session. He is also enthusiastic about greetings and is reliably at the door when someone comes home.
Potential adopters should be ready to meet some particular care requirements. Because he can become overstimulated, Sooty does best with frequent, dedicated play sessions throughout the day to keep both his mind and body engaged, and he requires a household where he will be the sole feline resident.
His adoption fee is set at $50 and includes completed vaccinations, a microchip, a voucher redeemable for a veterinary exam, and he has already been neutered. Anyone interested in meeting Sooty or browsing other available animals can visit HSPPR.org or stop by the shelter at 610 Abbot Lane in Colorado Springs.
The shelter is also currently seeking homes for several other animals. Dean, a nine-year-old Siberian husky mix, came to HSPPR as an owner surrender and is described as playful and attentive despite his age. Meanwhile, a one-year-old black-and-white pit bull named Snoopy, who arrived at the shelter as a stray, is available for adoption at the Pueblo location on Eagleridge Place.
Among the more unusual listings, HSPPR is also looking for a placement for a family of three Anatolian Shepherds — three-year-old Saber Wolf and his two-year-old offspring, Abby Jean and Brock. The trio spent their lives on a farm and would ideally be placed on another working property; Abby Jean and Brock are bonded and must be adopted together, with Saber Wolf welcome to join them. All three dogs are available for a combined adoption fee of $300, which covers vaccinations, microchipping, a veterinary exam voucher, and spay and neuter procedures.
Whether Sooty and the other featured animals are claimed quickly or remain at the shelter for an extended period is not yet known, and Springs Daily will follow any updates to their adoption status.
