Pikes Peak State College placed all of its campuses under a Secure Status on Friday, Aug. 14, after officials determined that a threat received by the institution warranted heightened precautions. The college received a threat considered to be of high concern, prompting the Secure Status declaration.

Under the Secure Status, all PPSC campuses remained open for faculty and staff, but all campus doors were locked, and only faculty and staff were allowed on campus. Faculty and staff were also given the option to work remotely. Beyond the restrictions on campus access, the school canceled Career Start Orientation.

The threat is under active investigation, and officers are working with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, according to officials. The college said the Secure Status was intended to provide law enforcement partners additional time to investigate the threat. Students, faculty, and staff may also see an increased law enforcement presence on PPSC campuses in the coming days.

PPSC said normal operations are expected to resume Saturday, Aug. 15, unless circumstances change. The college said it will notify the campus community of any updates.

The investigation remains active, and whether normal Saturday operations proceed as planned will depend on findings by law enforcement in the hours ahead.
