A statewide mountaineering effort marked Colorado's 150th anniversary on Saturday by placing hikers atop every 14,000-foot peak in the state at the same time. The initiative aimed to get a group on the summit of every 14,000-foot peak in the state simultaneously on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026.
Mount Quandary was among the peaks included in the effort. A group of hikers from Adaptive Adventures made their way up Mount Quandary as part of the Colorado 150 day celebration, with a long line of climbers visible heading to the summit from the false summit, 1,100 feet below the top.
The initiative was inspired by a similar effort on the 1976 centennial.
Additional details about the number of peaks successfully summited, total participants, and outcomes across other 14ers had not been fully reported at publication time.
