A sophomore at Falcon High School is generating statewide buzz in junior golf after a stretch of results that few players his age have matched anywhere in Colorado.
Besler is 15 and in his second year at Falcon High School. His scoring average has earned him a second-place ranking among 4A competitors statewide, and he holds the same position on the Colorado PGA Cup Series, a by-invitation competition open to junior golfers throughout the state.
At the Palmer Invitational, played at Patty Jewett Golf Course in Colorado Springs, Besler carded a round of 63, which works out to nine under par. He matched that nine-under figure again to claim the title at the CO-PGA Junior tournament held at Fox Hollow in Lakewood. Out of state, he captured a national AJGA event in Montrose at 18 under par, edging out a golfer who has committed to the University of Colorado on a golf scholarship for the coming fall.
Those recent results build on a competitive history that stretches back to elementary school. Besler has accumulated more than 40 junior tournament victories dating to when he was nine years old, has made four holes-in-one, and regularly carries his drives past the 300-yard mark.
His grandfather serves as his traveling companion and support system for tournaments around Colorado as Besler works toward a Division I college golf program and, beyond that, a potential professional career.
Whether Besler can maintain his top-two state rankings through the remainder of the high school season and into the postseason will be the next measure of his remarkable early trajectory.
