A Falcon High School golfer is drawing statewide attention after a string of standout performances that have put him among the top junior players in Colorado.

Cayden Besler is 15 years old and a sophomore at Falcon High School. He is currently ranked second in 4A in the state based on scoring average and sits second in the Colorado PGA Cup Series — an invitation-only series featuring junior golfers from across Colorado.

Besler's recent results have been particularly sharp. He shot a nine-under-par 63 at the Palmer Invitational at Patty Jewett in Colorado Springs. He also shot nine-under-par to win the CO-PGA Junior tournament at Fox Hollow in Lakewood. He recently won a national AJGA tournament in Montrose as well, finishing 18-under par — ahead of a competitor who is headed to the University of Colorado this fall on a golf scholarship.

The performances are consistent with a longer track record of competitive success. Besler has won more than 40 junior tournaments since the age of nine, already has four holes-in-one, and is driving the ball more than 300 yards.

His grandfather has been taking him to tournaments around the state as Besler pursues his goal of playing Division I college golf and potentially turning professional.

How Besler performs in the remainder of the high school season and whether his state rankings hold through the postseason will be worth watching.
