A northwest Colorado Springs road remains closed after heavy rainfall caused visible damage to the roadway surface, police said.

Police closed Popes Valley Drive following heavy rainfall that, according to officers, caused chunks of asphalt to wash into the nearby creek bed. Officers responded over the weekend after concerns were raised about the storm damage.

The closure affects the northbound direction of the road at the I-25 Frontage Road and within the Popes Bluffs neighborhood.

Authorities have not provided a timeline for when the road will reopen.

Drivers in the Popes Bluffs area should expect to use alternate routes until further notice, as the reopening of the affected stretch of Popes Valley Drive remains pending assessment of the storm damage.
