Two free events are happening at Acacia Park in Downtown Colorado Springs this weekend — and both are worth putting on the calendar before the school-year routine really locks in.

Saturday, August 29: OlymPeak City Field Day

The third annual OlymPeak City Field Day kicks off Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at Acacia Park in Downtown Colorado Springs. Admission is free.

The event is designed for families with kids, and there's a full lineup of activities. School relay competitions bring some friendly competitive energy to the park, while the Kids Market — a youth entrepreneurship component of the event — gives children the chance to run their own booths selling handmade goods. It's a fun twist that goes beyond a typical field day.

Alongside the kids' programming, there will be food vendors, community booths, and live entertainment through the morning. It's a good way to burn some end-of-summer energy before Labor Day.

Sunday, August 30: Colorado Springs Sunday Market

The COS Sunday Market runs every Sunday at Acacia Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This weekend's edition brings more than 60 local vendors selling locally-grown produce, artisan foods, handmade goods, and more — with live music throughout the morning.

The Sunday Market is a reliable weekend family outing that doubles as a practical grocery run. Local farms bring seasonal produce, and you're likely to find things you won't see at a regular grocery store. It's also a lower-key environment than the field day — more strolling, less relay racing — which can work better for younger kids or families looking for a slower morning.

Planning Your Weekend

Both events are at Acacia Park, so if you're thinking about attending both, parking downtown once and coming back the next day is the easiest approach. Acacia Park is at 115 E. Platte Ave. in Downtown Colorado Springs.

August mornings in COS can be warm, so sunscreen and water are good additions to the bag. Field Day starts a bit later (10 a.m.) so there's no rush to be there first thing — the market is worth the earlier start if you want the best selection from vendors.
