Sweet Cubby Children's Loungewear Recalled for Burn Hazard — 12,400 Units from Shein
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced in September a recall of Sweet Cubby children's two-piece loungewear sets due to a burn hazard. The sets fail the mandatory flammability standard for children's sleepwear — a standard that exists specifically because children's pajamas and sleepwear must meet strict fire-resistance requirements. About 12,461 units are affected.
If you've purchased children's loungewear from Shein in the past year, here's what you need to know.

How to Check Your Child's Clothing
To determine whether you have the recalled product, check the neck label and the seam label of the loungewear set. If the batch number "272779" appears on either label, the item is part of this recall. The sets are two-piece (short-sleeve shirt and matching shorts), sold in sizes 5-6Y through 13-14Y, and were available on Shein.com for roughly $8 to $12 during the relevant sale window.
Because Shein sells a high volume of items and the recalled sets are low-cost, it's entirely plausible that many families have them without realizing it. A quick check of your kids' drawers or pajama bins is worth the effort.
What to Do
The CPSC and the company, Hong Kong Xuheyuan Trading Co., Ltd (doing business as Sweet Cubby), instruct consumers to take the following steps immediately:
- Stop using the sets and keep them away from children.
- Cut the sets in half — this is required before submitting for a refund.
- Email a photo of the cut sets to SweetCubby@163.com.
- A full refund will be issued upon receipt of the photo.
The full CPSC recall notice is available at cpsc.gov/Recalls.
Why Flammability Standards Matter
Federal law requires that children's sleepwear meet specific flammability standards, because children are vulnerable in fire situations and clothing that catches fire quickly can cause severe injuries before a child or parent can react. These standards apply to sleepwear and items marketed as loungewear that could reasonably be used for sleeping. Retailers and manufacturers are required to test products before they reach consumers — when a product slips through without meeting those standards, the CPSC steps in.
