Two separate Consumer Product Safety Commission actions this week target common nursery and young-children's-room items that can pose serious risks to infants and toddlers. If you have an ONTHEWEI baby bath seat in your bathroom or a Jocoevol 6-drawer dresser in a child's bedroom, you need to act now.

ONTHEWEI Baby Bath Seats โ€” Official Recall

The CPSC announced a formal recall of approximately 2,140 ONTHEWEI baby bath seats on October 8, 2026. The seats violate the mandatory federal standard for infant bath seats because they are unstable and can tip over during use.

A baby bath seat that tips over during an infant bath is a drowning hazard. Even a moment of instability with an infant in water is dangerous โ€” the CPSC's recall language reflects the seriousness of the risk.

No injuries or incidents have been reported in connection with this recall. That's worth noting as a piece of good news, but it's not a reason to continue using the product.

What to do: Stop using the bath seat immediately. Contact the manufacturer for a full refund. Complete recall details, including how to reach the company, are available at cpsc.gov/Recalls.

Jocoevol 6-Drawer Dressers โ€” CPSC Warning

The CPSC issued a separate safety warning urging consumers to stop using Jocoevol 6-drawer dressers. The warning states that the dressers violate the mandatory standard for clothing storage units because they pose tip-over and entrapment risks.

Dresser tip-overs are one of the most common causes of furniture-related injuries and deaths in young children. A typical scenario: a child opens a low drawer and climbs on it, shifting the center of gravity until the dresser falls forward. The weight of a dresser โ€” particularly a six-drawer unit โ€” can be fatal for a toddler or young child caught underneath it.

What to do: If you have a Jocoevol 6-drawer dresser in a child's bedroom or play area, stop using it in that location immediately. Options include: securing it to the wall with a furniture anchor strap (available at most hardware and big-box stores for under $20), moving it to a room where young children don't have unsupervised access, or removing it from use entirely. Check for a remedy notice at cpsc.gov/Recalls.

A Note on Furniture Anchoring

Furniture tip-over incidents are preventable in most cases with anchor straps, and they're not specific to recalled or warned products. Any bookcase, dresser, or tall storage unit in a child's bedroom should be anchored to the wall โ€” regardless of brand or age. If you've been meaning to do this and haven't, this week is a good time.

Most hardware stores carry anti-tip furniture straps in the furniture or child-safety aisle. Installation takes about 15 minutes per piece of furniture and requires only a drill or screwdriver. The CPSC has additional guidance at cpsc.gov on which types of furniture most commonly tip over and how to anchor them properly.

What's Next

Both the ONTHEWEI recall and the Jocoevol warning are listed on the CPSC's active recalls page at cpsc.gov/Recalls. The CPSC updates its recall database regularly โ€” families can sign up for recall alerts by email at cpsc.gov to receive notifications directly rather than finding out secondhand. If you're unsure whether a baby or toddler product in your home has been recalled, the CPSC site has a search function that lets you look up items by brand or product type.
