Halloween Is 4 Days Away: COS Trunk-or-Treats and a Day-of Prep Checklist
Halloween is four days out, and Friday, October 31 is shaping up to be a full day in Colorado Springs. Beyond the events we covered earlier this week — Boo at the Zoo and SoccerHaus — there are two more free trunk-or-treat events worth adding to your calendar. Plus: it's time to run through a practical day-of prep checklist now, while there's still time to fix anything that needs fixing.

These two weren't in our Monday roundup and are worth knowing about:
Diversus Health Superhero Trunk or Treat — October 31, 10am to 2pm, free. Diversus Health is Colorado Springs' behavioral and mental health care nonprofit. Their Halloween event is family-friendly and runs in the late morning and midday window — a solid option if you want to get out before the main evening rush. Verify the location before heading out.
Red Leg Brewing Company Trunk or Treat — October 31, noon to 3pm, free. Red Leg Brewing on North Nevada Avenue runs this as a community event. The midday timing makes it easy to combine with afternoon trick-or-treating. Verify event details directly with Red Leg before going.
The standard Colorado Springs trick-or-treating window is 5:30pm to 8pm on October 31. That leaves a solid stretch between the afternoon trunk-or-treats and the evening door-to-door window — enough time to get home, get warm, and regroup before heading back out.
Day-of Prep Checklist
Do these now, not on Friday morning:
Try on the costume today. Costumes that fit in September don't always fit in late October. Make sure the costume doesn't drag on the ground, that your kid can walk and run in it, and that any mask or face covering doesn't block vision. A tripping hazard at the door is fixable Tuesday. A tripping hazard at 7pm on a dark sidewalk is a problem.
Check the weather forecast. Colorado Springs in late October can swing significantly. The forecast for October 31 in COS should be checked a day out, but it's worth knowing now that layering under a costume is almost always easier than outerwear over one. A base layer under thin fabric is nearly invisible and makes a real difference.
Lights and reflective gear. Safe Kids Worldwide reports that pedestrian risk on Halloween night is significantly elevated — children are out later and drivers aren't always expecting foot traffic. A flashlight, a clip-on blinker, or even a strip of reflective tape on a bag makes your kid more visible. It takes about 30 seconds and costs nothing.
Bag check. Smaller bags tend to produce more sustainable trick-or-treating. A pillowcase looks fun but leads to heavy, overfull hauls that kids stop enjoying. A medium tote with handles is the sweet spot. Have it ready, labeled, and near the door.
Plan your route. If you have older kids going out with friends, agree on a meeting point and a check-in time now. If you're going out with younger kids, map a rough loop so everyone knows the plan before you're standing in the dark trying to make decisions.
