D49's New Student Success Center Opens August 3 — Preschool, PEAK, and More
With the new school year starting August 3 in District 49, families who have been waiting for more details about the new Student Success Center now have something concrete to plan around. The center — housed in the former Falcon Elementary School of Technology building — opens at the start of the 2026–27 year and brings several programs under one roof that were previously scattered or unavailable.

The four main programs at the Student Success Center are:
- Preschool classrooms: Two new full-time preschool classrooms will run Monday through Thursday. These are available to D49 families across the district — not limited to families in a particular attendance zone or neighborhood school. This is a meaningful expansion for families who've struggled to find early childhood options within the district.
- PEAK programs: PEAK provides higher-level support and intervention for students with disabilities. The Student Success Center gives these students a more school-like environment while they receive specialized services and work toward transitioning back to their neighborhood schools.
- Elevates 18–21 Transition Services: This program, which supports young adults with disabilities in the transition to post-secondary life, is relocating to the Student Success Center.
- Base49: D49's before and after school care program will also operate from the center, providing extended-day options for families who need coverage outside of school hours.
Why the Student Success Center Matters
D49 made the Student Success Center a central piece of its 2026–27 budget, adopted at the June board meeting. The conversion of the former Falcon Elementary of Technology building reflects a district effort to consolidate specialized programming and use existing space more efficiently — the building was available, and the programs moving in were previously operating in less purpose-built settings.

When School Starts
D49's first day for the 2026–27 school year is August 3 for kindergartners, sixth graders, and ninth graders — it's a designated "get acquainted" day for new students. All students attend starting August 4. The Student Success Center opens with the rest of the district on the same schedule.
