CPSC Warning: Budget Baby Boost Crib Bumpers Sold on TikTok Shop Pose Suffocation Risk

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued an urgent warning against Budget Baby Boost padded crib bumpers that were sold on TikTok Shop between March and July 2026. According to the CPSC, the bumpers violate the federal ban on crib bumpers and pose a suffocation risk to babies. Making the situation more urgent: the company has not responded to the CPSC's requests to recall the products or offer a remedy to consumers.

Approximately 141 units were sold through the social media platform's built-in shopping feature for about $16 each. Parents and caregivers who purchased these bumpers should stop using them immediately and dispose of them.

Why Crib Bumpers Are Federally Banned

Padded crib bumpers have been federally banned since 2022. Research shows that even babies who cannot yet roll over can press their faces into soft padding during sleep, obstructing breathing and creating conditions for suffocation. The federal ban applies to all padded crib bumpers regardless of material, thickness, or marketing claims about "breathability."

The safe sleep standard established by the American Academy of Pediatrics is clear and consistent: babies should sleep on a firm, flat surface with a fitted sheet — nothing else in the crib. No bumpers, no loose blankets, no positioners.

The TikTok Shop Angle

The fact that these bumpers were sold through TikTok Shop highlights a growing pattern the CPSC has flagged in recent years: products sold through social media shopping features and online marketplaces do not always undergo the same safety review processes as traditional retail channels.
