CPSC Recalls 2.3 Million Ricky Joy Sour Crush Candy Bottles for Choking Hazard

If your child has Ricky Joy Sour Crush Rolling Liquid Candy Bottles at home, in their backpack, or at school, the Consumer Product Safety Commission is asking you to take them away immediately. The CPSC issued a recall of approximately 2.3 million of these bottles on September 10, 2026, citing a choking hazard that poses a risk of serious injury or death.

What the Hazard Is

The Sour Crush bottles apply liquid candy through a small rolling ball at the top of the bottle — the same rolling ball mechanism found in other rollerball candy products. According to the CPSC, this rolling ball can detach from the bottle during use. If a small child picks up the ball or has it fall into their mouth, it creates a serious choking hazard.

No injuries have been reported connected to this recall as of the announcement date. However, the CPSC is urging immediate action.

How to Identify the Product

The recalled bottles contain 1.85 fluid ounces of sour rolling liquid candy and come in four flavors and corresponding colors: blue (blue raspberry), red (strawberry), green (green apple), and pink (watermelon). They were sold individually and in packs of three or 12 bottles. The bottles were available at H-E-B and Forman Mill stores, as well as online at Walmart.com, CandyFunHouse.com, and RickyJoy.com. Sales ran from January 2023 through May 2026, with individual bottles priced at about $3 and packs ranging from approximately $13 to $32.

Why This Product Type Is High Risk

Rollerball candy products have drawn serious CPSC attention before. In 2024, Candy Dynamics recalled approximately 70 million Slime Licker Sour Rolling Liquid Candy bottles for a similar choking hazard involving the rolling mechanism — and that recall was connected to one child death. The CPSC subsequently warned all consumers to stop using rollerball candy products category-wide.

Colorado Springs parents should treat this recall with the same urgency. Even if your child has used these bottles many times without incident, the ball can detach unpredictably. A young child who picks up a detached rolling ball has no way to recognize the danger.

What to Do Now

Take the bottles away from children immediately. Do not continue using them, even to finish the remaining candy. Contact the Ricky Joy Company directly to arrange a full refund:
