A Colorado Springs Daycare Is Offering Free Childcare Tomorrow So Parents Can Vote

There's a practical barrier to voting that doesn't get talked about much: finding someone to watch the kids. A Colorado Springs daycare is trying to solve that problem. Tomorrow, Thursday October 29, they're offering free childcare so parents can get out and drop a ballot or vote early without needing to coordinate a sitter.

What They're Offering

The offer is straightforward: free childcare on Thursday, October 29, specifically so parents can participate in the current election cycle. As of this week, seven families had already registered, and organizers said they're hoping to accommodate up to 50 families total.

If you need the slot, reaching out sooner is better — capacity is limited and the date is tomorrow. The initiative was reported by RMPBS Colorado; check their coverage for contact information and registration details.

Why the Timing Matters

The D11 $775 million bond vote is November 3. That's the ballot measure that would fund a rebuilt Palmer High School, a rebuilt Holmes Middle School, and HVAC and safety improvements across D11 facilities. It's the first D11 bond since 2004, and it's a significant decision for Colorado Springs families with kids in the district.

Mail-in ballots are already out, and ballot drop boxes across El Paso County are open now through the postmark deadline of November 3. That means families don't have to wait for Election Day — returning a ballot this week counts.

Childcare isn't the only barrier to voting, but it's a real one. For parents with young children, carving out an hour to drop a ballot or vote early requires either bringing the kids along, which works sometimes, or finding coverage, which doesn't always come together on short notice. An offer like this removes that calculation for the day it's available.

If You Can't Make Thursday

Drop boxes are available at multiple locations across Colorado Springs and El Paso County. You can find the full list at the El Paso County Elections office website. Ballots can be dropped off without getting out of the car at most locations. For families with kids in the car, that's often the most practical option.

In-person voting on November 3 is also an option; El Paso County vote centers are open on Election Day and accept same-day registration.

What's Next

The D11 $775 million bond vote is November 3. Mail-in ballots are due by postmark that day; drop boxes are open now. If free childcare on October 29 works for your family, contact the daycare via the RMPBS Colorado report for registration details. If not, ballot drop boxes across El Paso County are available through November 3.
